Discover Tea & Dutch Culture at Moychay: Exclusive Event with Sergey Shevelev

Date: 1st of June 2025 | Time: 17:30 - 20:30 | Location: Moychay, Amsterdam

Moving to a new country can feel overwhelming — from figuring out the culture to finding a sense of community. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Moychay Tea Culture Club in Amsterdam to offer this inspiring event designed especially for expats. Whether you're curious about Dutch life or want to experience one of the most authentic tea tastings in the city, you're warmly invited to join us.

Guided Gong Fu Cha Tasting with Moychay Founder Sergey Shevelev

Start: 17:30 | Duration: 1h - 1.5h | Host: Sergey Shevelev

Sergey Shevelev & tea at Moychay

Fresh from his latest sourcing trips across China, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia, Sergey Shevelev — founder of Moychay — will guide guests through an immersive 1–1.5 hour tasting session featuring an extensive selection of rare teas, many of which are unavailable in stores.

You’ll explore the Gong Fu Cha brewing tradition: a precise and expressive way of preparing tea that brings out depth and nuance in every infusion.

After a short break, the evening continues with a special interactive lecture for expats (see below).

Gong Fu Cha is about more than taste — it’s a craft, a ritual, and a celebration of nuance.

What to expect:

  • A deep dive into traditional tea brewing

  • Tasting of oolongs, red teas, aged puerh, and more

  • Stories from the source: how rare teas are discovered and evaluated

  • A calm, welcoming space to connect with other internationals

This event is ideal for anyone curious about tea culture, looking to slow down, or seeking meaningful connection in a new country.

A Taste of Dutch Culture - Interactive Lecture

When: After Sergey’s session | Duration: 1h, 15min | Host: Bart Rotteveel

A Taste of Dutch Culture lecture

Following the tea tasting, stay for an engaging and lighthearted lecture about daily life and integration in the Netherlands. Led by Bart Rotteveel, founder of Reaching Expatations, this session offers expats a fresh perspective on Dutch society—what makes it tick, what surprises people most, and how to settle in more confidently.

It’s not a history lesson or a dry presentation — but a relaxed, story-driven session filled with examples, cultural tips, and some of the things no one tells you when you move to the Netherlands.

Topics include:

  • Dutch norms and values (and how they affect daily life)

  • Do’s and don’ts in traffic and public transport

  • Work, housing, politics and how they’re connected

  • Surprising facts, real talk, and a touch of humor

Whether you're brand new or have lived here for a while, this session offers clarity, connection, and a deeper sense of home.

About Moychay Tea Culture Club

Moychay is more than a teahouse — it’s a cultural space where craftsmanship, community, and calm come together. Located in the heart of Amsterdam, Moychay offers a wide range of teas from small producers across Asia, brewed with care and tradition.

From matcha lattes and aged puerh, to handcrafted ceramic teaware and tea culture workshops, this is a place where tea is celebrated as a journey, not a product. And for one evening, it also becomes a bridge between expats and locals, tradition and integration.

Tickets & More Info

Tickets include both parts of the evening (tea tasting + expat lecture). Whether you're a tea lover, a curious newcomer, or someone looking to connect in a meaningful way — we’d love to welcome you.
